Design and positioning audit

Comet

This is a positioning audit of Comet, the cleanser. I read what the brand says about itself on its own site, then what 89 shoppers wrote about its best selling product.

Comet is one brand in the household division of KIK Consumer Products. KIK has owned the consumer brand since 2018. Procter and Gamble, which launched it in 1956, still sells Comet to the professional market. This audit is about the consumer brand and nothing else. Where KIK appears, it appears as the maker.

This is not about the website. The homepage is only the fastest way to see what a brand thinks it is selling. What matters is whether that matches what people are actually buying, and on Comet the two are further apart than on any brand I have read this year.

Drawn from

The full star split and review count for Comet Multipurpose Cleaning Powder with Bleach, 21 oz, on Walmart.com. 89 of its written reviews read in full. cometcleaner.com, captured live 2 September 2026.

Every quote is copied word for word. No number is guessed. If I could not check something, it is not in here.
